Q.
What's the difference between 6x4 and 6x4½?
A. 6x4 is
traditional small, postcard size. However, since most digital camera
photos are a slightly 'squarer' shape than 6x4, we offer 6x4½
size prints for the same price to accommodate for the squarer image
shape.
The only downside to the 6x4½ print size is that very few photo
albums support this shape of print. If you choose traditional 6x4 size
instead you will probably find cropping occurs at the top and bottom of
your image.
Q.
How many megapixels produces '35mm Negative Quality' on a digital
camera?
A. The quality
of a digital image depends on much more than just the number of
megapixels. It also depends on the lens and the size and quality of the
CCD (light sensor). When choosing a digital camera it is generally
better to base the decision on the intended use of your photos (e.g.
2-3MP is generally enough for snaps, 6-10MP for more serious, higher
resolution photos, 12MP+ for professional applications.)
Q.
How many images will fit onto my digital memory card?
A. This
question is not one that can be answered quickly as there are many
factors involved. Why? Imagine a gallon of fuel in a car. How far will
it take you? This would depend on the type of fuel and the way in which
the car is driven, etc. Similarly, the total possible number of photos
that can be stored on a digital card depends on the file format, the
chosen resolution(s) of images already contained on it and in most
cases the compression ratio. Higher capacity cards (e.g. 1gb
upwards) will hold more photos than lower capacity ones (128mb, 256mb,
etc).
Images stored in JPEG (JPG) format generally require far less card
space than those saved as TIFF (TIF) files due to higher compression.
Q.
Can I reuse my digital memory card?
A. Yes, you
can empty your digital card or selectively delete images to free up
space by selecting the option on your camera's menu. You may wish to
have your images transfered to CD first so as not to lose them forever,
before erasing the images on your card.
Q.
Can you transfer my digital images to a CD?
A. Yes, we can
copy the contents of your digital card onto a CD in 1 hour (subject to
availability). You can then view them on your home PC. Many home DVD
players also support JPEG CDs, so you can then enjoy your photos on
your TV too!
Q.
Do you erase the images after printing from my digital memory card?
A. We will not
automatically erase anything from your digital media unless you request
us to do so.
Q.
Is printing digital images more costly than printing from film?
A. Prices vary
depending on services. We have price lists available on request for
APS, 35mm and Digital. On average, 40 standard 6×4 prints from
digital media is slightly cheaper than the same images from film.
Q.
Why should I come to Snappy Snaps for my photos for Passport,
Driving Licence, Bus Pass, Work ID, US Passport, US Visa, Canadian
Passport, or just about anything else I can think of?
A. Our
passport and driving licence photos are guaranteed to be correct
Does your
local 'sit-in' plastic box photo booth know the exact, latest
specification for approved standard passport photos? No.
Does it know if your mouth is fully closed, if your head is completely
straight, or if you've got reflections on your glasses? No.
Does it know if your photo will be too light or dark?
Can it check your photo against the latest specifications for its
intended purpose? Again, the answer is no. In fact it probably wouldn't
even know if you're facing the camera or not.
However, if you come to Snappy Snaps, we'll personally take your photo
on the latest digital camera, print it in 60 seconds and check it by
hand against every requirement of the most up-to-date specifications to
ensure you'll be recognised and, most importantly, that your photo is
accepted.
